Announcing Uvita's International Elementary School: School del Sur

The times they are a... movin' on. There are now enough expats moving into the Uvita area to warrant the forming of an International elementary school. Below are the facts pertaining to it.

School del Sur: grades Kinder - 6th
Open since March 15th, 2006
Leasing the "old" high school in Uvita
School hours: 8:15-1:00
Bilingual student body

Following Costa Rica school year, with optional "Summer school"
School calendar runs approx. Feb 15th - Dec. 15th, recognizing the major Costa Rican and US holidays.
US based curriculum covering all major subjects is used throughout the day with added Spanish lessons. Throughout the year, children also receive PE., drama, music and computers. Field trips are also planned.
The school has a bilingual student body, and is open to all children.
They are using the Calvert Homeschool program. For more info on Calvert, visit www.calvertschool.org
Tuition: $200.00 registration fee, then a $150.00 monthly fee.
Calvert needs to be ordered separately for each child. Cost ranges from $390 - $800 for a whole year of curriculum - all subjects included, depending on the grade. This allowed students to enroll at the school at any time of the year and work at their own pace. Also taking books on family vacations if needed.
If more than one child attends from a family, there is a 15% discount.

Sponsors are being accepted for local children. The cost is $2,000.00 - $2,500.00 per year. This opportunity is a life changing gift. Click here for info.

Donations also needed for renovating 2 of the 3 existing buildings to accommodate many new students moving to the area this school year. Playground equipment, school supplies, materials for new desks, and chairs are also needed.

New Announcements {March 2007}:

School del Sur is off to a GREAT new year. We've been able to extend the school day a bit to include some fun activities. Thanks to the volunteers for helping with baseball/PE Thursdays, art projects, and gardening activities.

A big thanks to Uvita.biz!! We hope to have a website up very soon.

School del Sur is accepting resumes for part/full time Spanish Instructors. Also any volunteers with experience in music, computers, art, or sports.

Traveling south on the costanera (coastal highway) turn right (towards the ocean), which is the first right after the gas station. There is a new grocery store on the corner and a Coopealianza with ATM. Go past the Coopealianza 300 meters (3 blocks). School del Sur is on the right.
